Construction quality software: checklists, hold points and NCRs that close properly

Construction quality software is only useful if it records what an auditor will ask for: what was inspected, against which code, by whom, who released it, and what happened when it failed. CivilOS's QA/QC carries 250 checklists across 25 sectors, each citing the IS code or specification it checks, an inspection and test plan with hold, witness and review points, and an NCR register whose reports close only with a disposition and a verifier.

On site, the Live Site Audit works on a phone without signal, with photographs stamped with time and GPS, in Hindi or English. Reports print on the firm's letterhead. It runs in the browser on a Free plan.

A second pair of eyes, built in

The point of a hold point is that someone other than the person who did the work lets it go on. The software enforces that: the inspector who recorded an activity cannot release its hold, and an NCR cannot be closed by the person who raised it. Those two rules are what an ISO 9001 or third-party auditor checks first, and they are kept by the software rather than by goodwill.

Codes cited, not implied

A checklist item that says "cover adequate" is an opinion. One that says what the cover must be and cites the clause it comes from is a check. Each checklist here cites its source, so the inspector checks against a standard and the record shows which.

How to start

  1. Open QA/QC and choose the project type.
  2. Set the ITP — mark hold, witness and review points.
  3. Inspect with the checklist on site, with photos and signatures — offline if needed.
  4. Raise NCRs for failures; close them with a disposition and a verifier.
  5. Print the reports for the client or auditor.

What CivilOS does not do

Where a browser tool fits

Large EPC companies run quality modules inside their ERP, configured by a quality department over months.

The contractor or PMC that needs a working quality system on site this week — checklists that cite codes, holds released properly, NCRs that close — can have it on a phone today, free to start.

Frequently asked questions

What is construction quality software?
Software that keeps the quality records of a construction project: the checklists for each activity, the inspection and test plan that says which activities must be released before work continues, the non-conformance reports and their closure, and the signed reports a client or third-party inspector reviews.

Is it free?
Yes, to start. Create a free account (no card) and the Free plan opens every module, including QA/QC and Live Site Audit, with a monthly allowance; prints carry the CivilOS letterhead. Pro, Max and Enterprise Seats plans add more hours and generations and put your own letterhead on every print. The Training Corner, Knowledge Library and Feedback are free without limit.

Which sectors are covered?
250 checklists across 25 sectors — buildings, earthwork, roads and highways, bridges and tunnels, water supply and sewerage, solar and wind, power transmission, MEP, railways and metro, industrial plants, interiors, safety and materials testing among them — each citing the IS code or specification it checks, plus 287 audit formats.

What makes it a quality system and not just checklists?
The inspection and test plan. Each activity is a hold, witness or review point; a hold must be released by a named second person before work goes on, and the register shows any hold still blocking work. NCRs are closed only with a disposition — use as is, rework, repair, reject — the action taken and the name of the person who verified it, who is not the one who raised it.

Does it work on site without signal?
Yes. Live Site Audit works offline with photos, GPS and signatures and syncs later; it is in Hindi all the way through.

Do I need to install anything or create an account?
No installation: CivilOS opens in an ordinary browser on a laptop, tablet or phone and can be installed as an app from the sidebar. A free account is needed to open the engineering modules; it takes a minute and asks for no card.

Draft for checking. Every safety-critical output of CivilOS is a preparation document. Drawings, quantities, rates, programmes and inspections must be verified, and the result signed off, by a licensed professional before they are issued, tendered, built or paid against.
